Withdrawl

Boy have I been slacking on my blog. Sorry if I have any faithful readers still checking in from time to time to see no new updates for the past 2-weeks. It's been a busy month but honestly a lot of what we've been dealing with outside the norm hasn't been stuff I really wanted to write about such as Tahitian head lice stow-aways, sewer line cracks and backed-up spillage, our ice maker breaking and flooding our fridge somehow, mice in the food storage room, car maintenance, employment concerns, a dead cat in our backyard, colds, ear infections and a bunch of junk like that. Typical life stuff all packed into one little August package deal.

On the bright side, we thoroughly loved watching the Beijing Olympics for the past 2 weeks. This morning I had a little withdrawl pang realizing if I turned on the TV, I wouldn't see the world together on one venue all doing their best in friendly (yet fierce) competition with one another. So I didn't turn on the tube and felt a momentary sadness. Wait, I'm supposed to be focusing on the bright side... OK, so I now know how to find and treat head lice, we know why our drains run slow sometimes and where we need to dig up the main sewer line to fix the section with roots growing in it, we have a new fridge, the mice are still evading me but I've been doing some much needed rotating of our food storage, I have new tires, brakes and alignment, I have an awesome boss who is fighting to keep me, I disposed of our dog's latest victim and none of our neighbors have come by looking for a missing cat yet, I'm past the worst of my cold that knocked me out last week, Zeth is being a little brave man about the pains in his head and will hopefully get some more teeth soon as a result, I have a birthday coming up in a week and Zeth's first year of life wraps up the following week.

Zana started practicing with her first AYSO team. As soon as she got her uniform she declared she loves playing soccer - having never actually played. What a sucker for new clothes. :) She is now in her 5th week of first grade - whilst the rest of the public school world seems to have just started their fall term today. We had back to school night last week and her teacher said she's a great student. Getting high marks on just about everything so far. No big suprise there, we've always known she's got a great head on her shoulders. She learned a new French phrase, "Je t'aime", and uses it frequently. I've probably over-scheduled her life already. She's got something going on every afternoon after school including Tahitian dance, gymnastics, hip-hop and soccer practices. It's kinda crazy but she loves all of her activities and is thriving in each of them so far. She wants to start taking piano lessons too but I think we'll wait just a while until after soccer season or something else ends. She also loves playing with our camera and taking silly random pictures.

Zeth recently discovered he loves climbing up stairs but hasn't figured out how to go down more than one step without a major wipeout involved. He loves calling for our doggies, even though they usually ignore him unless I'm there too. I guess they realize I'm the only one who's gonna feed them so why bother. They are such lazy dogs, unless there's a cat around to 'play' with. Zeth loves knocking things down, giving great big slobbery kisses, pulling the toilet paper out in long streamers and doing parades while shredding it, kicking balls around like a natural soccer player, playing suprise piano duets in Relief Society, dancing, playing with Zana and making us all laugh.

So that's my month so far in a nutshell.

Olympics Baby!

It only happens for 2 weeks every four years and although I probably won't watch much of it, it's just cool to know that the Olympics started in China today! 08-08-08. What a great date. I just hope none of the athletes who are not used to breathing in 96% polution in the air drop dead from what the Beijing officials are trying to convince the world is simply 'mist'. HA!

I have a bunch of great photos I still want to post from our trip so if you're interested, here are some more of my favorite memories from Tahiti. One tip, if the Slide show ends, click the X at the top right corner of the black screen to start it up again.

Moorea.

We spent 3 days in Moorea where life began for my DH. It was fun for him to reminisse with his brothers and visit family still living there. I find it fascinating that Ram still remembers vividly the first soda he ever drank. We visited the Magasin Lai Assan where he bought his first Fanta Raisin and a sandwich then sat down outside and let the satisfaction of being a real man finally wash over him at the tender age of 5 or 6. Oh to remember something as trivial as that in this day & age. It's amazing. We visited Ram's grandparents graves. We couldn't make it to his grandma's funeral last year so this was a sentimental visit for us.

Vairea's parents were kind enough to let all 35+ of us stay in their vacation home and thanks to Vairea and Teamo for staying behind to thoroughly clean up after all of us. And merci one more time to Vairea who always seemed to be stuck with the arduous task of dicing onions for the family. We were all so well cared for and fed this trip.

While in Moorea Ram and I passed our 15-year anniversary without much fanfare. In fact, we spent much of that evening at the ER with Zeth getting him treated for a painful ear infection. His teeth are taking their sweet time coming out and it hasn't been easy on this little guy. I'm happy to report he did work his first two teeth through his gums last Friday, 8/1/08 and they are progressing quite nicely now.
